KOCHI: The city shadow police on Saturday arrested a Mattancherry native for peddling ganja and seized more than 1kg of the contraband from the accused.
According to police, the accused used to peddle ganja to students.
The accused, Arshad, also used schoolchildren to sell ganja among other children.
The investigation following a seizure of 500g of ganja from a 17-year-old boy last week led to the arrest of the accused, said the police.
Nitrazepam tablets prescribed for depression was also seized from the accused. He used to sell the tablets by mixing it in drinks. The police seized about 29 tablets from him.
The arrest was made by a team from the central police based on a tip-off received by shadow police SI Honey K Das.
In a separate incident, Varapuzha excise arrested two people with ganja at Kongorpilly.The accused, according to excise sleuths, used to peddle ganja by roaming around in a car.The arrested are Bastin Sebastian (34) and John Nikhil Paul (20). They were charged under the NDPS Act. Excise sleuths said that the both the accused are history-sheeters.Mobile thief held: The Shadow police on Saturday arrested a 41-year-old man for allegedly stealing a phone worth Rs 15,000. The shadow police team arrested the accused, Ramesh Kumar of Tamil Nadu, when the latter tried to sell the phone at a shop in Menaka.He was arrested during a special drive conducted by the city police to curb increasing mobile phone thefts in the city.
